Project details
In November 2016, following the success of the previous years' events, Faust Chamber Orchestra returned to Beaconsfield for "The Majestic Horn", a workshop and family concert with Seer Green CoE and Butlers Court Schools, featuring various songs and carols, Mozart’s Horn Concerto no. 3 and Biber’s Battalia.
Brilliant horn player and animateur Letty Stott brought music to life during the afternoon workshop, which proved very informative and engaging sessions for the young participants.
The evening concert was a showcase not only of the results of the workshop but also of the performing and listening skills the children had. Bach’s Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring performed by both choirs together with the orchestra was certainly a wonderful finale! Faust Chamber Orchestra is grateful to the Beaconsfield Old Church School Charity for supporting this project. |
In December 2015 thanks to the generous support of Richmond Parish Lands Charity (RPLC), Faust Chamber Orchestra (Faust Ensemble at the time) delivered a 'Music Day' at Darell Nursery and Primary School in Richmond in December 2015. Mark and 9 members of the orchestra performed 6 workshops and a final concert for the c. 300 children from nursery to year 6 during a day filled with music!
This is an example of how Faust Chamber Orchestra can partner with a local charity to take top quality music-making into a local school and make a difference in the children's everyday environment.
'You were a huge inspiration to the children and they all enjoyed the day immensely. The quality of the playing was exceptional' Laura Whateley - Headteacher, Darell Nursery and Primary School |
In November 2015 following the success of the 2014 Christmas concert with Seer Green Choir, Faust Chamber Orchestra (Faust Ensemble at the time) returned to Beaconsfield for a winter-themed workshop and family concert with Seer Green CoE and Butlers Court Schools, featuring various songs and carols, Vivaldi's Winter and Corelli's Christmas Concerto.
The afternoon workshop was particularly enjoyable as the children got actively involved under Mark's leadership. During the family concert in the evening, Mark Austin handed over the baton to Jane Smith, music specialist teacher at Seer Green CE School, and Julia Woodroffe, Creative Arts Co-ordinator at Butlers Court. The concert featured orchestral performances interspersed with Mark's explanations and insights from the earlier workshop.

In September 2015, 200 children (years 5-8) from Davenies and High March Schools in Beaconsfield attended a workshop led by Mark Austin. It included demonstration of 5 different instruments, singing ‘Frère Jacques’ as a canon, conducting lesson for 6 lucky pupils, an introduction to musical forms, live performances by the orchestra and Q&A sessions.
"inspiring and educational"

In July 2015, Faust Chamber Orchestra (Faust Ensemble at the time) worked for the first time with extraordinary inclusive theatre company Chickenshed to perform workshops at their 'Tales from the Shed' Big Day Out.
Members of Faust Chamber Orchestra introduced young children to their instruments, and alongside puppeteers from the Chickenshed team they performed a specially created adventure 'Orchestra of the Jungle'.
A day packed with fun for all participants! |
In May 2015, Faust Chamber Orchestra (Faust Ensemble at the time) launched a new partnership with Chiltern Music Academy (CMA), agreeing to work together to offer CMA students the opportunity to play and work alongside Faust Chamber Orchestra's professional musicians, who are passionate about nurturing and developing young players of the future.
This partnership was formally inaugurated when the players of the CMA String Orchestra joined Faust Chamber Orchestra in rehearsal in June 2015.
Other common projects are being discussed and will follow.

In September 2014, two members of Faust Chamber Orchestra (Faust Ensemble at the time) visited Gayhurst School: Mark and Jon led the children in various musical activities to help them appreciate rhythm, melody and movement of music.
The classes joined in with an unusual version of Pachelbel Canon where they played the various parts beating out different rhythms on their bodies.
The full report is available on Gayhurst School's website.
